Madame Penny attends the annual CI Summit

Thanks to Wiley PTA’s generous support, Madame Penny attended the annual CI Summit in an lovely suburb of Philadelphia (Chestnut Hill). It has been a fantastic week for her, full of learning, friendship, and fun. One of her favorite activities was getting to observe expert language teachers teaching in the language labs. Another highlight was going to a French restaurant with all the other French teachers for an immersion dinner. She can't wait to share all that she learned with her language teacher colleagues at Wiley and to implement the fun ideas she has learned in her classroom this school year.

FYI - CI stands for Comprehensible Input: the pedagogical concept that language is acquired when we are flooded with input in the target language that is not only comprehensible, but also highly engaging. In order to make the target language input comprehensible and compelling, we use games, stories, and movement to engage learners. We focus on listening and reading and are patient to see language output (speaking and writing) because we understand that understanding language occurs prior to production.
