Waste Reduction at Wiley

The PTA’s Sustainability Committee is identifying opportunities to reduce or better manage wastes that are generated during the course of normal school activities at Wiley. The objectives of this effort are to promote campus sustainability and educate students in line with several of the UN Global Goals that underlie our school's magnet theme.

Wiley currently participates in Wake County’s Feed the Bin program which collects commingled recycling at no cost to us. We are considering potential benefits from expanding this program at the school—for example, obtaining additional bins for classroom recycling overflow or cafeteria recycling. We are also visiting other Wake County public elementary schools to learn more about other waste reduction efforts such as food scrap collection for composting. If you would like to be involved in this effort or learn more, contact secretary@wileypta.org.
